Call the breakdown service!

The picture above is of our wee "relief" ferry being towed into Stromness Harbour tonight after breaking down on the final run from the island of Hoy. Hopefully it is something minor and will be back in service tomorrow.  There are a number of children who need to get to the school as it's exam time as well as folk needing to get to work.  The boat towing it is a local work-boat.  Can't wait for our "proper" ferry to come back into service - it's currently away having the marine equivalent of an "MOT/Service".....

  1. When I read the words "Island" and "Scottish" and then saw there are 27 residents I was drawn to follow your blog, and say hi from my home in California. I imagine your way of life will be fun to hear about. I hope you come over and say hi on my blog too.

  2. Oh dear. Although I did expect to see an 'AA' yellow style boat :D

  3. Poor children! Exams are stressful enough as it is without this. Fingers crossed it all gets sorted out very soon.

  4. I'd not made the connection that the one we came over on was a relief boat - I hope she was fixed overnight and you get your proper one back soon. You do get attached to "your" ferries don't you - a temporary is never *quite* the same!
