I headed out to Birsay on the West Coast of the Orkney Mainland. One of my favourite places with lots of history. Some info here
I love watching the waves, and pottering on the beach. It was a blustery day when I was there but quiet. In the Summer it is so busy it's hard to get parked up.
And Introducing..... Freda (short for Freedom). Part of my retirement plan was to go adventuring in a wee Campervan. Covid has rather scuppered those plans, but I have finally managed to get my wee van. She's old! A Toyota Hiace Regius. But more recently professionally converted. Two-berth, with a fridge, gas hob, and sink. Plus "porta potty". Has a leisure battery or can hook up to electric. Just perfect for me! Mostly to be used as a "day-van" for adventuring around Orkney, with some summertime camping adventures to the isles and over the Pentland Firth to the North of Scotland. Nowhere too far but I'm looking forward to more adventures in my wee "bubble" which is unfortunately necessary due to continuing Covid-19 and my health issues. But fun times ahead I hope!! And no, Button will NOT be adventuring with me. She hates travel of any kind, bless her!
Freda looks great! Hope you have lots of good times with her.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYou are going to have great adventures with Freda.
ReplyDeleteOh I do hope so :-)
DeletePleased for you, what a belter of an idea. I think we shall be seeing more of Freda.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping so :-)
DeleteWonderful to see those marvellous photos of your coast. Your campervan is mighty!! You're going to give us more wonderful photos from there
ReplyDeleteWell I hope so! So far the weather hasn't been conducive to photos though I have been out and about!
DeleteFreda will expand your horizons wonderfully. Seems a great idea and I am sure we all look forward to seeing more of where you venture to.
ReplyDeleteAch my several web-identities confuse even me at times, a result of having to write using different names. That was me, above, also known as Andrew R. Scott. Life's confusing enough without the extra confusion I make for myself. Anyway, enjoy your new Freedom aboard Freda!
Delete"oh what a tangled web we weave"
DeleteThough not "to deceive", Mark, just the common practice of pen-names that keep different types of publications separate. Always Andrew though... (oh, except when Don QuiScottie de l'Ecosse :))
DeleteAh yes, that great literary tradition of different names! LOL! I did guess it was you though.
DeleteFreda looks great. Thanks for the information on the Kitchener Memorial. I learned something today.
ReplyDeleteIt has a fascinating (and sad) history.
DeleteSounds great - have fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteShe looks great Sian, you'll have lots of fun. We sold our van when my health deteriorated, it was very sad, as they were our favourite holidays, but it was the right thing to do.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you had to sell you van. I've bought mine as I'm hoping it helps me be more mobile and in a little bubble now all covid restrictions are being lifted. It's a scary time for those of us who are clinically vulnerable. Hope you are doing OK?
