Chilly day.....

These photos were taken a week or so ago - when it was chilly.... but no snow on Graemsay. just on the Hoy hills.... and Stromness.....

Looking over the old lighthouse pier to the East of Graemsay.

Did I mention it was chilly.  I'm well wrapped up as you can see....

Button has her thermal vest on.... obviously......

Looking over towards Stromness

The sun reflecting on Sandside beach....

The old sail shed at Sandside....

Over the garden wall....towards Stromness

The main road on the island just visible the other side of he bay.

Incoming snow over on Hoy.  View from upstairs in the house...

Blue skies.....

and..... more snow pictures.  Bored yet?  Don't worry it's set to disappear this week with temperatures rising to a balmy 8 degrees C!

The cattle are kept indoors but sheep are out - at least they have wool jackets to keep them warm!  And hens can huddle in the hen house..... Anyway some more snow scenes in the landscape.....  Above the shadow of the house stretches far into the field.  The Lighthouse lit by the sun, and in the background snow clouds....

The Orphir hills......

And to the right of the lighthouse....

And across the water - who fancies a paddle?!

Before the snow.....

A couple of weeks ago before the snow, I had company on a walk to the shore.  Not just Madam Button but also Blacktail, one of the hens.  Gawd I am that batty woman who takes her animals for walks.....

Blacktails started it.......... but then Button realised she was being left behind.....

They then practised their surveillance technique ...... no we're not following anyone, nothing to see here....

Blacktail gave up after a while and I think Button wandered off hunting mice..... so just me on the beach then....

It was a lovely calm day, the MV Graemsay heading to us with the cargo run.  The black "spikes" are cormorants (or shags) resting on the rocks.

It was such a gorgeous calm day....

Heading home and the starlings were gathering on the hydro (electricity) wires.....

"Snow on hills..."

I often hear weather forecasters saying there will be "Snow on hills" .... It was certainly true for Hoy this week!  Graemsay remained the green isle, while Hoy was under a (thin) blanket of snow. Here are some images from my trip out yesterday.

The valley between the hills....

Ward hill on Hoy.

The old croft of Dean with the Hoy Hills in the background....

And Moaness, Hoy

Meanwhile down at the pier two pairs of Fulmars where keeping a close watch on my as I dropped off my recycling!
