This wonderful photo was taken by Rob, one of the Northern Lighthouse Board engineers.  Hoy High lighthouse, Sandside (home) and the Hoy hills.  The photo was taken some weeks ago when it was particularly chilly.  Though it has to be said we had snow showers at the weekend too!

  1. I love lighthouses! Guess many people do... something about them carries lore and legends. In the book I wrote Annie inherits a lighthouse... must be wishful thinking.

    1. I've always loved lighthouses. The ones on the East Coast of the USA have always fascinated me - they are quite distinctive.

  2. Nice to see Hoy lighthouse from close up. It is always on your horizon, a familiar landmark to us too by now. I also like lighthouses.
You live in a beautiful place.

    1. Yes not often I get up close to it myself. Though I do (or did!) visit the neighbours but then I'm too close to take a photo... it's a lovely photo and sets it within the landscape.

  3. You live in such a lovely place, but it must be difficult having to isolate yourself from others at the moment. We're in Edinburgh but there's lots of green space round about where we can walk far away from others. The worst thing about it for me personally is not being able to see our grandchildren.

    1. I do miss chatting to people and going over to Stromness to meet up with pals. But I can't complain really as I can get out to the shore and wander about the garden. I'm so fortunate. I have friends south who live in flats with no outdoor space, not even a balcony!
