A brief time to relax....

.....and watch the sun drop down behind the horizon. Sunday was a glorious day - HOT! Sunshine, with mist drifting over part of the island.

At the top of this post is one of my favourite pictures..... though it has to be said I didn't notice the figure in it when I took the photo. I don't usually take pictures with people in them - just one of my quirks ;-)  But as I was snapping the sunset, Joe from Ramray was lurking in the buildings at the shore doing exactly the same thing. Snap!!  Hee hee...... I'm just glad that Joe too appreciates sunsets.....

The water was so still.... beautiful.....

Looking towards Stromness harbour
There are a few cattle grazing in my field behind the house. I think they enjoyed the sun on their backs too.  The bull is a big handsome fellow. A Shorthorn - a lovely chocolate colour!

Cattle enjoying the late evening sunshine

Cattle can be extremely inquisitive. When I was working in the conservatory last week I looked up from my laptop to see this....

Is that what is known as line management?  Hee hee!

  2. That is one stunning sunset; I think having such a 'big' sweeping landscape sets it off to perfection. And I love the cattle keeping an eye on you!

    1. I just love the sunsets here in Orkney. Mostly the landscape is low and sweeping so it gives a great effect. The cattle have got more used to me now and are rather bored of watching me I think. LOL!

  3. Stunning photos, Sian. Your new camera really does give you beautiful results. I too love the watchful cattle shout. :-)

    1. Yes I'm really pleased with my new camera. And I'm being extra careful with it so I'm hoping this one lasts longer....sigh.....

  4. Ooh, what beautiful photographs! Do you mind me asking what camera you got? I've had mine for two years and it's annoyed me the whole time. Oddly enough i bought it in orkney after dropping my beloved old one in the sea (i actually dropped the one before it in the orkney sea too...)

Actually, we're coming to orkney in TWO WEEKS (hooray!!) so perhaps i should buy a new one now just in case i happen to 'accidentally' drop this horrid one while i'm there...

We're thinking of a little more island hopping this time - i've been to orkney 6 times now but never made it to Graemesay so maybe this will be the time...

    1. I have a panasonic lumix DMC-TZ19. They may have superceded that model now. But I know lots of people with panasonic lumix's who are thrilled with them. This one I got cheaper from as it was a manufacturer return. I am quite heavy on cameras...got through three of these in the last 2 years!! Am trying to be more careful with this one and NOT put it in my pocket full of fluff or drop it into the anti-freeze....sigh.....

OOoh yes do come to Graemsay! I have visitors briefly in 2 weeks time so might not be on the island for the first few days. Do get in touch though if you are visiting (email address as part of my profile). would love to meet up with a fellow blogger!
