Graemsay sea horse!

No I haven't been blown off into the Atlantic. Sorry for the lack of posts. Just overwhelmed with work, life, approaching Christmas (Bah Humbug!) and usual low energy at this time of year.  I shall return soon!

Another storm approaching with gale force 8 possibly 9 winds, high seas and snow!  Hoping the power remains on. I can cope with most things if the power stays on.  Anyway, a neighbour, Sheila, from Hoy Low took this amazing picture on the beach at Sandside recently.  It's just a natural sculpture form of a lump of old iron with sand and a lump of the marran grass from the sand dunes for it's mane. It must have been formed out of the recent gales and high seas.  Beautiful.  Thanks Sheila for letting me share it and well spotted!

  1. Great picture. And thanks for sharing YOUR picture. It's wonderful to have faces to go with names.

  2. Hee hee! I'm quite shy really and tend to be "anonymous" but after sorting out google I realised it had replaced my snow hen photo with me. Got used to it now ;-)

  3. Wow. That is really neat. Good eyes. I wonder how long it will last....considering your coming high winds.

    1. Yes I'm afraid it's probably gone already....sigh... but that's one of the wonderful things about natural art I suppose!

  4. What a fun photo. :-) I do hope you didn't get any damage in that appalling weather last Thursday. What a day!

    1. All well here thanks. But it was awful. Hate such high winds. Fortunately no flooding in Orkney apart from one or two very localised spots. I was anxiously watching the news and thinking of you! Heartbreaking for folks along the East cost.... however high tech we get we can never compete with the power of Nature.

    1. It's great isn't it! I can say that as it wasn't me that took it ;-)

  6. Oh, I love your seahorse! Perhaps it's a Graemsay kelpie.

I was thinking of you and your neighbours when I looked at the storm warnings last week. Our power was out for a day and a half. Once we got it back, I just had time for one hot bath and then the water supply for the entire castle packed up! We don't know what's caused it but suspect something must have been damaged in the storm. Meanwhile I'm washing up in vegetable water and brushing my teeth in Highland Spring...and longing for the next bath!! Hope you are keeping warm.
