After lots of activity in recent weeks, and folk dashing about to do farming work before heading to festivities on the Orkney Mainland, or shopping for food and Xmas gifts, Christmas day is a much quieter time on the island. Folk have their family Christmas. Though there are still animals to feed of course.
I choose to spend Christmas at home, just me and Button. Though I have been invited to neighbours this evening for drinks which will be a nice way to finish the day.
Earlier today I went out for a walk to the shore. It's been a grey day with low cloud, but no wind and still incredibly mild. So it was lovely just being outdoors. Button came too of course....
The old Sandside pier with the tide gently lapping the shore. So calm and still.
Button alert to everything....
Looking across to Hoy....
Remains of an old wooden boat...
Sandside beach.....
The old barn, topped by a hooded crow....
And Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate it!
A quite evocative eand beautiful evening. I love these photos, so quiet and nelancholic. Have a merry Holiday season, Sian.
