Winter solstice

Well technically the solstice isn't till tomorrow (the shortest day) but it's due to rain then so I went for a solstice wander today.  I don't celebrate Christmas but I do celebrate the winter and summer solstice and the equinox of Spring and Autumn.  For me Winter is a time for withdrawing, for retreat, and hunkering down, allowing my body and mind to rest. Doesn't always work out when I still have to work to earn a living, but as most friends will tell you, I do hibernate in Winter, and working from home makes that a bit easier!

Anyway, here are a some pictures from my wander around Sandside today.

I love the sun warming the sandstone of home....

Rooftops of the old byres and the garden dyke soaking up the rays....

And warming the stone on the henny house...

Shining through a window in the old byre...

Warming the gable end of the old byre...

And bringing light into the house....

Button in the shadow, snoozing oblivious to the sun above her...

So I shall light candles this weekend to remind the sun to return after the long dark night...
