Late summer....

Lovage silhouetted against a September sky.  The Manse visible at the foot of Ward Hill on Hoy.

I always sow some marigolds (Calendula) for late summer colour and for the bees as other flowers have gone over...

This bee needed some tlc last weekend.  It was exhausted after a day of wind and rain, so I gave it some sugard dissolved in water as a syrup.  It perked after after a drink (as indeed I do! Ha!) and flew off, rather drunkenly to start with....  but seemed ok.  Then a couple of other bees started lining up to finish off the "dregs"....

And here is a short video of a bee having a drink!

Cosmos.... (as in flower not universe)

Cornflowers....

Button enjoying the sun - not her best side!  She looks like a whale in this photo!

Hens enjoying a drink in the garden on a warm day - don't we all!

A short video of the girls enjoying a drink....

And a nocturnal visitor - a wee hedgehog!  There aren't many on Graemsay so it is a treat to meet one in the evening when I went out to check on the hens...
